Wholesale & Retail Partner FAQs

This section provides answers to the most common questions from our procurement and category management partners regarding sales, logistics, and profitability.

Profitability & Product Performance

Q: What is the gross margin for retailers on your frozen dough pucks?
A: We structure our pricing to offer a guaranteed, industry-leading margin. Retailers achieve a 44%+ gross margin on our frozen dough pucks, positioning Charlie Chestnut Bakehouse as an immediate profit driver in the specialty frozen dessert category.

Q: Why does the product command a premium retail price (PRP)?
A: Our premium pricing is justified by the use of specialty, certified Non-GMO and Organic ingredients, especially the unique chestnut flour, and the superior quality of the final baked product. This prevents price wars common with traditional frozen dough, allowing us to maintain high dollar-per-unit profit for our partners.

Q: How does the frozen format help minimize losses?
A: Our frozen dough pucks provide an exceptionally long shelf life (12 months from production) when stored properly at -18 C. This virtually eliminates the spoilage and shrink common with fresh, daily-delivered baked goods, maximizing your return on inventory investment.

Logistics and Cold Chain

Q: Do you offer Direct Store Delivery (DSD) or use a distributor?
A: Yes Charlie Chestnut offers Direct to Store Delivery where available and as we scale in Phase 2, we will partner with regional and national LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) frozen food distributors. This ensures consistent, -18 C cold chain control from our facility directly to yours. We will provide our preferred distributor contacts based on your region.

Q: What are your Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs)?
A: Our MOQs are flexible, but typically start at, 5 cases or $700 to ensure efficient cold chain shipping. We can discuss regional minimums during the onboarding process.

Q: Are the packaging materials retail ready?
A: Yes, our frozen dough puck boxes are designed to be shelf-ready, featuring high-impact graphics and clear stacking specifications for organized freezer display in both open-air and chest freezers. Our food service pack is 48 pucks per case, ready for baking.

Safety, Certification, and Compliance

Q: What food safety certifications do you hold?
A: Our facility aims to operate under a HACCP-based Food Safety Plan compliant with all CFIA and Ontario regulations. CCB is currently applying for HACCP and our bakers have current and valid Food Safety Certificates. We can provide documentation confirming adherence to our comprehensive Allergen Control Plan and strict GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Q: How do you support the Non-GMO and Organic claims?
A: We maintain a rigorous Supplier Approval Program, requiring Letters of Guarantee and Certificates of Analysis (COAs) or official Non=GMO and Organic labeling with the approved applicable logos from all key suppliers to verify the Non-GMO status of our ingredients and the certification status of our Organic components (e.g., Unbleached Organic Wheat Flour).

Q: Are your products considered gluten-free?
A: NO, Charlie Chestnut Bakehouse cookies and other products are not Gluten or Nut free, moreover our cookies are produced in a facility that uses nuts and wheat flour. Wheat flour and nuts are major allergens.
